Staying Fit at Work

You've probably heard how sitting for prolonged periods of time is just as dangerous as smoking. According to studies and doctors the affects lead to serious health problems, equivalent to those of smoking.

Multiple studies suggest that even if we exercise every day, sitting all day can slow our metabolism and cause weight gain or other diseases. As it seems exercising for only half an hour a day may not be enough, and instead try to be active whenever we can throughout the day. Aim for actions that get a large number of your muscles working for a few minutes every 30 minutes.

Take a Short Fast Walk

Taking a fast paced walk during your lunch break. Studies show that walking fast is more effective than walking at a leisurely pace.

Take the Stairs

Head for the stairs instead of the elevator, walking up and down for a few minutes is a fantastic activity.

Get Up From Your Chair

Try standing when speaking on the phone or during conference call. This revives a lot of the vital metabolic activities that slow down or stop when you sit.

Buy a Stand-Up Desk

Think about switching out your traditional desk for an adjustable stand-up desk and rotate between sitting and standing. There is no reason to stand all the time, it will only get you tired and cause you to slouch, alternating between the two is the best method.
