Nutrition errors you have to avoid

fruitsbWhen comes to diet doesn’t mean starving all the time. If you’re not eating enough your body goes into ‘starvation’ mode and begins to consume muscle, not fat. You need to eat enough to maintain healthy levels of blood glucose to sustain your energy throughout the day. Three meals a day will burn stored fat if you’re also exercising regularly. Regular intake of food creates a ‘thermic’ effect as your body processes the calories. This increases your metabolism.

Skipping meals is bad for your body. This applies especially to breakfast. Even if you don’t feel hungry at that time, eating and drinking something nutritious in the morning is one of the best things you can do for your body.

When trying to lose weight it’s important to know your daily caloric intake. To reduce weight safely at the rate of 1 to 2 pounds a week you need to subtract calories from your daily total.



yogurt2For example: a one pound loss requires 500 calories less per week; two pounds, 1000 calories. Without becoming neurotic it’s advisable to have a rough idea of what you need to consume to maintain your energy levels while losing weight.

Eat, don’t drink calories. Studies reveal most calories are consumed in liquid form: alcohol, coffee and sweetened juices. Instead, eat your calories combined with proteins and complex, fibrous carbohydrates. Drink plenty of water which is carbohydrate free.

Be careful when eating out. Think before you order in restaurants and learn about the nutritional value of your food. Salad dressings can contain 500 calories or more. Ask for the dressing on the side. Similarly, avoid going to the grocery store when you’re feeling hungry! Eat before you shop and avoid bad choices based on emotion rather than sense.

Similarly, binge eating and cravings for certain food is linked to our emotions, pleasure associations, sense of smell and sight rather than intelligence. Fast foods contain chemicals and hormones designed to make it addictive, like nicotine in cigarettes. Learn to avoid unhealthy cravings by being creative in the kitchen at home.
